Contents of /etc/master.passwd [SOLVED]
-
~~_I just noticed that in my test pfsense 2.1 /etc/master.passwd there's a user "pop" with a seemingly active password, but no shell:
_dhcp::65:65::0:0:dhcp programs:/var/empty:/usr/sbin/nologin
_isakmpd::68:68::0:0:isakmpd privsep:/var/empty:/sbin/nologin
uucp::66:66::0:0:UUCP pseudo-user:/var/spool/uucppublic:/usr/local/libexec/uucp/uucico
pop:$1$jG58XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0mR4.:68:6::0:0:Post Office Owner:/nonexistent:/usr/sbin/nologin
_ntp::123:123::0:0:NTP daemon:/var/empty:/sbin/nologin
_relayd::913:913::0:0:Relay Daemon:/var/empty:/usr/sbin/nologin
unbound::59:1::0:0:unbound dns resolver:/nonexistent:/usr/sbin/nologin
admin:$1$dSJImXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX0re.:0:0::0:0:System Administrator:/root:/etc/rc.initialI checked my config.xml and the only user/pass there is the one for admin/root.
Any ideas?_~~Edit: Never mind, false alarm, I just re-installed the latest pfsense 2.1-BETA iso from scratch on a new VM, and the only two accounts with passwd are root & admin, as it was supposed to. Apparently I must have changed "pop" account's passwd manually sometime during the past 10 months of using that 2.1 VM while upgrading it in-place from the webGUI.
Seemingly password changes to the FreeBSD passwd file are preserved across dozens of pfsense firmware upgrades.
