How to avoid using two routers without having two PPPoE ports?
-
First of all, to the developers, thanks for this commercial grade yet free software.
I have a pfsense box with two DSL lines. This is to facilitate policy based routing, one line for critical traffic and another one for torrent/web traffic.
DSL A is connected via the WAN port on PPPoE. DSL B is on the OPT interface using a static internal IP(10.0.0.2) to connect to a Linksys blue box(10.0.0.1) which acts as the PPPoE dialer for DSL B.
Is there a way to use another pfsense or monowall box to connect via PPPoE instead of the linksys router, so that my OPT interface gets a public internet address instead of having two internal IP addresses between me and the internet?
Thanks.

If your provider can give you a block of IPs on the account, you can have the router do the PPPoE, with WAN bridged to LAN on the router, then assign another public from the block to the pfSense WAN port.

That depends on your DSL modem. I have a Westell DSL modem that'll do the PPPoE and automatically pass the public IP to a specified internal host via DHCP. So I have an OPT interface that's a PPPoE DSL connection, and gets its public IP via DHCP while the modem does the PPPoE and hands out the public IP to pfsense. Works very well.

Thanks.
Is another pfsense box capable of doing this? This seems easier to do than buying another modem.
