I have read everything about the different versions of pfSense for installation, but I'm still a little confused.

I'm wanting to install to a SATA 6.0Gb/s disk drive,

The LiveCD can be installed, but I read, "Some features are not compatible with the Live CD platform. In most circumstances, this should only be used as an evaluation of the software with your particular hardware.". Almost everything else is for the nanobsd (CF).

If I'm using a disk drive, am I stuck with only the LiveCD? Or will the nanobsd run on the disk drives?

You can do a "Full" install from Live CD

That limitation refers to run pfSense from the Live CD and not aplies to the Full install (from the live CD)

          Thanks - good to hear!

          I feel better now!

By the way, why are the installation files larger on the nanobsd than the LiveCD?

Couldn't help you with that question but in the past I had problems with my CD-ROM Drive and the LiveCD. There is a memstick version of pfsense. It is the same as the LiveCD. You can install the pfsense full version also from USB-Stick/Memstick. Just for information :)

I used the CD and all is good!

Still wondering why the nanobsd versions are larger files than the LiveCD. I'm just curious!

              Thanks for your help!

You can't really compare the size of the downloads in any meaningful way.
NanoBSD is a reduced size install of FreeBSD so you might expect it to be smaller however the image contains two root partitions so it's twice as large. But it's also compressed.  ;)

                    Thanks all!

Curiosity killed the cat. But you know what? Satisfaction brought him back!

The LiveCD worked fine. It's just that there were so many versions, I wanted to be sure I was using the correct one.

                    Happy New Year all!
