        Look here: http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,36651.0/all.html
and follow the links for loads of discussion. Also look generally in the Hardware section.
I have just got a 2nd hand Firebox X1000 - serial console, 6 10/100Mbps ports, 256MB memory. Loaded a current 2.1-BETA1 2GB image onto a CF card, installed, booted, assigned interfaces and away it went. I am not familiar with all the model numbering, so don't know what "Firebox 3" is exactly.

As the Greek philosopher Isosceles used to say, "There are 3 sides to every triangle."

You can run pfSense on those boxes (Firebox II and III) but 128MB is now the minimum spec for RAM. People often run m0n0wall instead.
There are a number of threads about it here.
