I to am about to install some firewalls with cf cards, I would like pflow. But its not available for the cf installs.

Whats the reasons behind not being able to install on CF cards? I know that they have limited read/writes but surly some packages wont read write much, such as pfflow. A package like pfflow seems vital to a firewall

I dont mind installing it manually but it seems like there arnt any decent instructions any where, and if you install it manually what happens when you upgrade ? is the package removed or stops working ?

that url is pretty much useless as its talking about a bsd install not a customized pfsense with its configuration and web interface.
          (no offense to the poster)

It has been a design decision. Running on CF means embedded systems usually. Those systems have limited resources on top of the limited cf writes issue. Also note that pfsense developement is not focused to run on embedded hardware but to utilize server class hardware and appliances. Embeddeds are just a "sideeffect" here. However with embedded hardware becoming more powerful and cf cards becoming bigger we might discuss to change that philosophy some day.

Yeah i certainly under stand that

I just got a 6 interface VIA 1ghz machine from linitx, quite impressive.

I just have a quick question.

I know this isnt supported but ive installed a full install onto the cf card and not included a swap partition, installed pfflow and changed /etc/platform to embedded. Does this now how all the properties of not writing to the cf card constantly ?  i noticed that the RRD graphs were only writing on shutdown and when i accessed the page.

I will be writing a howto on our whole setup wan/dmz/lan/vpn/ and some performance benchmarks

                  Hello

                  I got this device http://linitx.com/viewproduct.php?prodid=10909

                  Its got 6 nics, 5 realtek 10/100's and 1 realtek 10/100/1000

via ftp im able to get 90 megabits from "wan" to "DMZ" much faster than our net connection can handle

so it preforms pretty well, ram usuage sites at 30% and cpu sits mostly at 6% but some times spikes up to 60%
