Hi, I was trying out the 3G ppp functionality, snapshot is 2.1-BETA1 (i386) built on Mon Feb 4 03:44:55 EST 2013 FreeBSD 8.3-RELEASE-p5, and ran into some issues.

      1. Dial-up-Mode doesn't seem to work, the status remains up after the no-traffic timeout period (triple checked).

      2. Disconnecting the ppp interface via the Status > Interfaces page and then reconnecting it calls for the webConfigurator to be restarted, then you need to kill the mpd5 pid in ssh only to discover that the ppp device goes into Invalid SIM State/ Locked (my SIM has the PIN verification disabled).

      3. Also, and more serious a matter, physically detaching the usb 3g dongle somehow leaves something hanging. Opening Status > Interfaces goes into a neverding http request and hangs the system. Log:

I know there are newer builds available. Are any of the above issues fixed ?

      Thank you in advance.

It is not meant to be that dynamic.
Probably for 2.1 it will not be that dynamic since the diversity of 3G modems and no standard command set from vendors.

During 2.2 it will certainly something that will be looked upon to make it more dynamic.

The ability to dynamically attach/detach the 3G dongle dynamically may not be a top priority, but what about :

          >1. Dial-up-Mode doesn't seem to work, the status remains up after the no-traffic timeout period (triple checked).

Is there a recommended configuration for using 3G as backup (e.g. for a VPN) on pfsense ?

It will always stay up but as soon as there is traffic it will flow/re-establish.
Since there is gateway monitoring it mostly will stay even connected without disabling it.
