Production systems running Wed Jan 30 04:20:39 EST 2013 behave "normally" at the login screen - the text cursor is ready and waiting for entry in the Username field.
On recent snaps, e.g. Sat Feb 9 11:36:45 EST 2013, you have to click in the username field to get going.
Not a big deal, but somewhere in recent changes to guiconfig.inc and similar stuff, this behaviour changed. From a quick scan of the commits I can't spot why, but I'm sure someone who is more familiar with the way all this GUI stuff fits together will see it straight away.

As the Greek philosopher Isosceles used to say, "There are 3 sides to every triangle."
