    CPU usage is constant at 50% normal?

      I have a dual core 1.8GHz/4GB of memory with constant use 50% of CPU and peaks of 100% …
      fewer rules and more squid and squidguard installed to a network of 30 users

      this is not normal ???

        On a dual core system, that implies that one core is maxed out.

        What shows as the process under Status > System Activity (or using top -SH from the console/shell) using all that CPU?

          this information system constatnte 50% …
          top-sh shell also in this ... 50%
          as a consequence the system freezes and web console no longer available, being necessary to restart the machine

            What version is that on?

            The CPU being taken by "system" implies that it's being used by pf for packet processing or similar, or in some cases, the GUI.

            If this is on 2.0.2, move to 2.0.3 and it should be better: http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,58203.0.html
