My apologies if this is redundant info, but in Googling around, I didn't find it all in one place, and just want to save the next person some trouble.

I could not find CF cards less than 8 GB, and did not want to leave the extra space unused (this is for install into PcEngines alix2d13 board).

The easiest (by FAR) method I have found is to mount the CF card into a USB card reader and then boot a machine (physical or virtual, both work fine) with the card reader attached and with the live CD as the boot media. Choose custom install after picking the Installer option, and then you can select the card reader from the list (be careful, of course, not overwrite any other media attached to the boot machine). Be sure and choose the embedded kernel option.

The only problem when putting the CF card into the PcEngines board is that the /etc/fstab file has the wrong devices listed. After you boot by specifying ufs:/dev/ad0s1a at the prompt, then edit the fstab file and replace "da0" with "ad0" (or other devices as appropriate with different hardware), and then the system should reboot without intervention.

This was all with version 2.0.1-RELEASE (i386).

      HTH someone.

You really couldn't find any 2GB or 4GB cards? They are easily available here in the UK.

By not using one of the images you are not getting any of the benefits of nanobsd.
