    IAX2 traffic not working

      I have a really odd situation occurring with regards to IAX VOIP traffic.

      I'm running pf2.02

      I have opened up all traffic to my providers IP addresses.

      My PBX is on and Optional Interface with a public IP that is a part of a public network range routed to that interface on my router.

      My PBX can register with SIP and make and receive SIP calls no problem.

      My PBX can register with the provider on IAX but as soon as a call is made to my PBX I get nothing.

      I'm trying to find out if pfsense is blocking traffic for calls, but because IAX is all done over UDP port 4569 and I can register with my provider it does not make sense.

      Just hoping someone else out there may have had a similar problem with IAX and pfsense.

        What device is calling and from where? At first sight the above two statement seem contradictory! And what is IAX and IAX2?

        Please provide more detail for the second statement: does a packet capture show the call arriving at the PBX? leaving the PBX?

        PERHAPS you need siproxd on pfSense. Its a while since I have done anything with VOIP so my memory might be a bit unclear. At the time I found some softphones were putting IP addresses in SIP packets and these IP addresses were not valid outside my network. I think if you search for posts from me containing the words twinkle and ekiga you should find a post with some details of the problem and how I dealt with it.

          Firstly it's not SIP I'm dealing with, I have SIP working ok it's IAX or IAX2 as it's also know as.

          It's an Asterisk standard protocol for send voice traffic. It uses UDP port 4569 for signalling and voice packets.

          My PBX can register it's account at the VOIP provider so I know that my PBX is talking over UDP port 4569 it's just when a call is placed over the connection that nothing happens, as in the person calling in to my PBX get an engaged signal. It may be an issue with the provider I'm just trying to eliminate pfsense from the equation.

            Are you talking the same problem here (as in by "nothing" you meant "engaged signal") or are there two different problems?

            Why do you think this a pfSense problem? I would be looking at your PBX to see if it is prepared to divulge some clues why that call attempt is getting the "engaged" response, perhaps the called party is already on a call.
