      Hi,

I'm using a USB drive with the pfsense-memstick-serial-2.0.2-REALEASE-amd64-20121207-2239 release to install pfSense via the serial console. The install works up to where the system reboots to boot onto the new install. After the reboot the serial console gets locked just as the "Welcome to pfSense" menu comes up. Is there a procedure to configure pfSense not to lock the serial interface before the reboot?

      Thanks,
      Paul

Well, I can guess only about the hardware you are using. But your serial console seems to be unusable. Are the symptoms comparable to those described in this thread:

When you installed did you choose a standard kernel or embedded kernel?

If you chose "standard" then re-run the install and choose the embedded kernel, which may play nicer with your serial console.

            Hi,

            Thanks for the replies.

I'm using a Netgate FW-7535 with a hard drive instead of the compact flash. The serial terminal console port is ok. I can finish the configuration by connecting a monitor and keyboard but this is a big pain to do… Once I can access the GUI I can then enable the console port via the serial terminal config in the advanced config and access is returned. It looks like the serial terminal is being disabled during the install and after the reboot locks you out.

I haven't tried the embedded kernel. I have been using the SMP kernel. Would this make a difference since it looks as though the install is disabling the serial terminal?

            Thanks,
            Paul
