WLAN stick (USB)

  • Hi,

    has anyone tested a USB-WLAN-stick and can give me some advice about a working configuration?

    I want to use a pfsense 2.0.2 as a wireless LAN access point.

    Thank you !!!!

  • The Ralink RT3070 chipset has given good results to me. I have been using a Tenda W311U dongle as an AP. Unfortunately this dongle doesn't seem to be available from local retail outlets any more. A recent search on eBay showed a number of suppliers of dongles claiming to have the RT3070 chipset.

    A search of the pfSense Wireless forum for RT3070 may turn up some other sources of RT3070 devices.

  • Thank you for the advice with the Tenda USB WLAN Stick. The stick was recognized just after i have connected it to my appliance. Also the configuration was easy on the webinterface, and the WLAN access point worked fine.

    BUT I recognized a problem after my first reboot. The Stick was not found, and the config was lost. After I repluged the stick I could configure it again.

    Can you help me with this issue?

    I have installed the pfsense 2.0.2 (i386) release on an Intel D2500 Board.

    THANK YOU!!!

    So the device firmware will be available to the device driver BEFORE the root file system is mounted, you need to add the line```
    runfw_load="YES"
