I am currently running v1.1 (embedded) on a cf card. I now need to setup a proxy but obviously there is the read / write issue. Has anyone had any experience enabling the read / write to the cf card or will it burn the card out? Thanks.

the card will die after about 10000 ~ 1000000 write cycles.

an alternative is to buy a Microdrive (harddisk in CF format) and install a fullversion.

It will, eventually, die.  How long it takes will depend on the particular card and how heavily the proxy is hit.  One way to increase the life is to disable all logging and caching.  I do remember reading that a developer had a full install going on a CF for some time (over a year ISTR) without problems, so it's possible.  Keep in mind to that at 1M write cycles it will take you almost 2 years at one write per sector per minute to reach it's lifespan.

However, as GruensFroeschli said, using a Microdrive (just read the forum posts on which brands to avoid/use) is a better bet.
