Route public/24 to vlan with same ip's(system hangs after making changes)SOLVED

    i use this in a production environment so to test different things has proven difficult when adding a simple port forward rule or even a firewall rule can cause a lockup shortly after changes are made… sometimes it locks up right after a change, sometimes it'll run for a day or two then hangs...

    when i first attempted this used nat1:1 with the lan ips 10.212.101.0/24 worked good in a production environment...

    now i want to assign the public/24 via my dhcp to a vlan...

    as it starts to lock up i loose access to web gui (via both wanip&lanip) then within minutes system freezes
    only thing i can do is force reboot physically to regain access... (requires 5 minute drive to it's location)

    after a reboot i check system log from web gui but i don't see anything out of the ordinary

    We have assigned the IP block to you.
    xxx.xxx.236.0/24

    I have routed this block to point to your existing static IP.
    xxx.xxx.232.12

    The reverse dns for the ip block will be host[xxx].mybusiness.com.

    You can now assign the gateway interface on your router with xxx.xxx.236.1/255.255.255.0 and hosts on the same subnet to access the Internet with these new IP's.

    Please let me know when you have a chance to test and confirm everything is operating properly.

    lan interface re0 died, moved all vlans to re1 and system running back to normal…

    What usage has your firewall if you have all WAN and LANs (DMZ?) on the same side of your firewall ?

    It's like you put a crash wall in front of your house that no car can drive in and hurt you…

    i have since this post added all my firewall rules back in place, as i was suffering from the system locking up i started stripping things apart back to bare config…

    the public/24 is solely used for my wireless clients, i block all ports to prevent residential clients from hosting servers (Vlan CPE = net access), if they want to host then they have to upgrade their access to a business class at that point i open all ports to their ip from wan side....
