Weird Pogoplug problem
-
I'm a pf-sense user and fan, but have torn my har out over a recent problem: I bought a pogoplug, which is essentially a baby ARM computer to which you attach a hard drive, that then allows you to go from any PC on the internet and view, read, and write files to the drive. A cool capability, especially for sharing pix and stuff with kids at college.
Unfortunately, with the pogoplug behind my pf-sense firewall, I see the drive for about three minutes from boot, and then it is inaccessible via the internet site (my.pogoplug.com). Very weird. I can ssh into the pogoplug locally and see the drive and contents, but it is not accessible over the internet. pogoplug tech support is useless. It is definitely related to pf-sense traffic handling, as I replaced the firewall with Zentyal, and voila, the pogoplug is accessible via internet.
I would prefer to use pf-sense for a lot of other reasons, but am stuck on Zentyal until I can figure out something to try to fix this glitch.Any ideas?
thanks,

According to their help-centre:
You need to set port forwarding 443 (TCP) and 4365 (UDP)
Have you tried this?

I don't have my pogoplug turned on currently - but when I get home I can turn it on. I don't recall any issues using it or accessing it via web.
I don't recall any port forwarding having to be done either. And it sure could not have used upnp because I have that locked down to only the ps3 on the network to be able to do that.
I'll fire it up when I get home and verify what if anything has to be allowed on pfsense.
edit: So yeah just as I remembered, plugged in my popoplug - and bam access it on the website with no issues. I don't have any ports forwarded to it.

I have three Pogoplugs. Two are on home networks using a standard Linksys little box router, and the pogoplugs behave normally. I did no special configuration to the router, port forwarding or otherwise. They just work.
I have the third on a PF-Sense network. WHen I ran 2.1 beta, it worked fine. Because of some issues, I had to downgrade to 2.01. Now my pogoplug "disappears" off of the internet after 3 minutes. i.e. It shows up on the "Mypogoplug.com" page, like the others. I can click and access files and directories, but 3 minutes later–no access. a spinning wheel on the web page and I'm hung. WHat is different in 2.1 over 2.01 that"fixes" my problem I wonder. -

So you're running pf-sense with no special configuration, and pogoplug is working fine? What version of pf-sense are you on?
I'm doubly confused, because I was running 2.1 until last night which had pogoplug working. But I had to do a reinstall (no good config backup). I installed 2.01, because the latest 2.1 rc kept failing. I updated to 2.1, but still no pogoplug -
I am on
2.1-RC1 (i386)
built on Thu Aug 1 19:03:40 EDT 2013So here are requirements
Note: Your Pogoplug must be able to access the following URLs and ports inbound and outbound: pogoplug.com:80 (TCP), pogoplug.com:443 (TCP) and pogoplug.com:4365 (UDP). If you use a network firewall or proxy, please configure your network to accept these URL’s and ports.
So can your resolve pogoplug.com ? Do you allow 80 and 443 out? Your not blocking UDP are you? What are you firewall rules?
You sure your handing out dhcp?

I'm running 2.1RC, and you're running 2.1–this is weird. And you've confirmed that your pogoplug access from mypogoplug.com works, even after 5-10 minutes. You have no special NAT or firewall configuration?
I'm going nuts. I reconfigured rules to accept inbound on the proto and ports listed, reset PP--no luck. And it sounds likes your PP works with PF-Sense running "as-is". weird.

There is NO special configurations I have done in pfsense for the pogoplug.
And yes I can access it just fine from the website.. Here I left a stick in this morning
As you can see you can see the two malwarebytes files on it - at work currently.

Perhaps I can shed some light on the subject that assisted me with this problem. There was no need to configure port forwarding…. The simple answer for me was I was running squid proxy server and it was trying to pass the traffic through the proxy. If you have a proxy in place it is likely your problem. Assign your pogoplug a static ip mapping and allow it to bypass your proxy. Voila.
If you need help with this post in the forums and I will put a tutorial together.
