I'm using the 2.1 beta, updated to the 4/11 5 PM snapshot (last night's snapshot). I wanted to do content filtering so I installed Dansguardian package (as well as Squid 2). I've never used it before so I've been searching Google for input and I think I've finally got it configured correctly. Well, sorta. I've got it configured on the browser to point to the proxy server and still have internet access. When I enable the AV portion it eventually fails to update and blocks everything. That's how I know it's actually routing through Dansguardian. I go to any number of well-known porn sites, no block.

I've gradually decreased the naughtiness limit down to 50 and still, it won't block anything. The default settings are all retained and enabled and I'm only using one group with no users. I do want to use users as I want only one computer to truly be filtered, but would like to leverage the AV filter and squid proxy for all the others so users will come into play later.

Regarding the clamAV engine, is it supposed to show up in services or is it considered part of Dansguardian and starts/stops with that? If I select Clam in the AV control of Dansguardian, I get a notice saying the database is missing and that it's running freshclam in the background to populate it. Thing is, I get no indication it ever does anything. I run freshclam from the shell and I get told that it can't write to a log file (cd to the supposed log file location and not only does it's file not exist, the clamav folder isn't even there). I haven't tried to create the file and folder because I'm not entirely sure clamAV is even running (which may create that file/folder anyway).

I'm missing something, probably something obvious but it's just eluding me. Oh, one of the threads I read said something about the file in /usr/local/etc/rc.d/ for clamav needing to be renamed to .sh. I browsed to that folder, found "clamav-clamd" and renamed it to "clamav-clamd.sh" and rebooted. Still no indication clamAV is running and if I enable it in Dansguardian, I still get every site blocked because it can't scan (and same error on freshclam from console).
