Unable to resolve the server's DNS address
-
Hi,
I am trying to configure pfSense in vmware workstation 8 on Win 7 host. My internet connection is always-on static ip type so I am given range of IP addresses and gateway with DNS. But before I could access any website I need to do web-based authentication by putting in user credentials (user/pass) on the url given by ISP and I am ready to access any website. So, I can see a green lights on the pfSense homepage (webconfigurator) and I can also tracert DNS privided by ISP but it doesn't redirect to the ISP authentication page so I am not able to access any website. It shows "Unable to resolve the server's DNS address". The redirect login url is "https://loginbom.tataindicombroadband.in:8443/home". Is it to do with firewall settings? Thanks.

Is it to do with firewall settings?
Does your web access even touch the firewall?
Does your Win system resolve loginbom.tataindicombroadband.in to an IP address?
I can also tracert DNS privided by ISP
On the Win7 workstation or some other Widows system? Does the tracert specify an IP address or a hostname?

I don't know. I just guessed it might be the issue. How can I check if that is a firewall issue?

I didn't get you. Normally, in absence of pfSense i.e. with network configured in the host system with isp details, if I put this url in my browser it returns with the form. I put in username/password into this form and I am ready to access internet. In the process, I am also assigned public ip. I am not sure but I think this public ip as automatically assigned when I put DNS addresses in the network configuration otherwise it just gets connected to the network but not internet when I don't enter DNS addresses.
The screenshot attached shows when I tracert my DNS on Win7 workstation through pfsense.
Hope it helps.
Thanks

I have provided more information as to how my ISP provides internet connection.
Please note that the ip address 10.40.108.x is not put in the Win 7 network configuration but in the pfSense configuration page.
Hope it helps in resolving the issue.
Thanks.
