One question - considering that lighttpd and php are already a part of pfSense - is there any simple way to make it usable for serving pages to the outside world? My router box is usually running 24/7 so it would be cool to throw a homepage/blog on it.

No and this has to be one of the worst security practices ideas I have heard yet.  It's a firewall, leave it be and deploy another server for this task.  No offense.
