Mikrotik 4 Port ethernet card



  • Hi guys,

    Some body knows or had used the Mikrotik four ports ethernet card for a production or test system ?

    This is the model
    Mikrotik RB44Ge

  • Couldn't find its chipset, Atheros AR8131/M, in the FreeBSD 8.1 Hardware Compatibility List



  • If you're looking for an inexpensive quad then look at the Soekris lan1841.  It should be supported since it uses the Intel 82574 chips.  Be aware though that since it's a single lane of PCI-e that you won't be able to max out all 4 ports at once.  You'll be limited to 2.5Gbit/s in each direction at a time (which is still more than likely far higher than you'll need).



  • Thats more than 600Mbps per port when all of them are maxed in parrallel.

    Perfect with an Atom board, wich can do about the same routing speed.

    Just have done a quick test, not used on production, on pfSense 2.0.1 AMD64, and it seems to work… sorry if i cant be of more help....

    Did you had to make some kind of "special" configuration on the CLI or pfsense recognize the card since the begining ?

    No, nothing special, it is detected without any problem… I just booted from a pendrive with the "pfSense-memstick-2.0.1-RELEASE-amd64.img" written on it  ;)
