      Hi Guys,

Im setting up pfSense on my standalone 1U server for the first time (i have installed inside virtualbox before)

      I have two interfaces bge0 and bge1

I have assigned bge0 to WAN and entered its static IP details (it connects to a modem), I have then assigned bge1 to a VLAN.

Obviously bge0 does not connect to the internet yet, as I have not entered the ppoe details inside the web configurator.

So I have attached a switch to bge1 and then run a cable to my laptop, I still however cannot connect via LAN to my pfsense server.

I thought I could just plug a cat5 into my switch and then I would be able to access the web configutator to configure my PFSense install?

      Thanks

I assume you have the switch setup to correctly handle the VLAN tagging/untagging?

I would setup the LAN without a Vlan for now, just set an IP address and subnet (and a DHCP pool if you don't set a static IP on your laptops network card).  Once you verify you have access to the GUI via the LAN, then look at your Vlan requirements.

sometimes rebooting wont be necessary, just disable then enable an Interface will do.

its like issuing administrative shutdown and power up to the interfaces.
