      Hi everyone,
I recently turned an old Dell Dimension 4500 desktop into a PFSense machine, for some general experimentation, and to be able to keep some networking knowledge in practice. I have been able to get inside LAN connection to work in a couple of different ways, I just can't seem to get it talking to the internet through my motorola cable modem. I use cox internet service if that helps/hurts my situation.

I would honestly think it was either a NIC issue or a wiring issue, if i hadn't used that NIC and cable to go to a couple of internet sites before I reformatted it.

Any thoughts or leads to similar issues would be greatly appreciated!

      Thanks,
      Nemares

Also, now that I look at it, it doesn't seem like the card I have set up for the WAN side of things is getting anything from DHCP

The cox modem may need a power-cycle to reset it, to allow it to see a new device being attached.

Swapping routers on my Cox modem gets old because of this but nothing else has reliably gotten the Cox modem to see a change in what is currently attached after a change.
