Sizing: 34Mbit WAN + failover ADSL and a couple of services running
-
Hello everybody, been a while since i last posted here but i guess you didn't miss me :)
anyway, i need to build a pfsense box which will give access to the internet to a "small" LAN event…
i'll have
1 LAN - gbit
2 WANs: 1x34mbit symmetric PPPoE connection and one dynamic interface connected to a 20/1mbit ADSL for failover (bit of balancing)problem is: i'll need to run the captive portal and freeRADIUS on the firewall for accounting and a bit of bandwidth limitation and fair usage.
plus i was planning to run squid + squidguard for blacklisting the worst or preventing ppl to get to malware sytes etc...since it's for a spot event, investing might become an issue so i was wondering:
i happened to put my hands on an HP Microserver with an AMD athlon II Neo N36L 800Mhz dual core, with 1GB RAM.
i was planning to stick an additional gigabit network nic (yet to buy) and use the managed switch capabilities to use 2 separate VLANs on the same NIC to connect the WAN interfaces.do you think it'll do? or maybe i should look forward to some more powerful hardware?
also any suggestion on a NIC that would support VLANs no problem and that can stick insode the HP Microserver?
