Does anyone know how to access the BIOS through console on the Watchguard X500? I have been reading everywhere that you need a flash a BIOS for the X-Core-e series, but not for the Core models.

When I boot my Watchguard, I hear a beep (assuming a P.O.S.T.) and then another beep - on the LCD it says "BOOT error" and I have some options. I can set the baud rate, reboot, start xmodem transfer mode, etc. I see nothing on my PC that is connected through serial using Putty @ 115200 8n1.

The reason I want to access the BIOS is to adjust the fan speed, because it's driving me bonkers.

Thanks to anyone that can help out!

You need a null modem cable with HW flow control.

There is no console redirect by default on the X-core boxes so the only way to access the BIOS is using a PCI graphics card and keyboard. I did experiment with enabling it using a modified BIOS image some time ago but my X700 box at the time died.
It doesn't matter either way because there is no fan control in the bios or in fact on the board at all. You would need to fit a manual fan controller.

Steve, thank you very much for the feedback. I was pulling my hair out! I purchase a new heatsink/fan so we will see how that works out. Cheers!
