Intel D2500CC with an Intel PRO/1000 MT Quad Port Server Adapter
-
Is this possible? I read that the PRO/1000 MT Quad Port Server Adapter is backwards compatible with pci, the D2500CC only has a pci and a pcie-mini slot. I'm going to be putting it in a 1u case so ill need some sort of flex adapter anyone know what kind ill need?

I'm sure you can find a Quad port NIC that will fit in a PCI slot, but you won't be finding a way to fit 4 gigabits worth of traffic through a PCI bus. Good luck with that.

well there is a mini-pci-e slot on the mobo too, that might be something.

You sure you wouldn't rather just use a vlan switch?
Anyway…

PRO/1000 MT Quad will not fit on the D2500CC, the Dual does. Check this post for more info:
http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,52197.0.htmlBut, as kejianshi states, there is no way to get 4 gigabit ports working on an PCI Bus. Not even a PCI 1x could handle them.
Even if you get an adapter to use 3.3v cards on 5v PCI Ports or mini-pcie to PCI you will be lucky if it works flawlessly, If you need a system with 6gbit ports just put your money on better components.

The bandwidth limit of the PCI bus will likely not be an issue here because the D2500 CPU cannot approach it anyway.
