2nd Setup

  • Hi,

Ok…I am thinking of running pfsense  as a dedicated balancer / failover device with the following hardware:

    2 gig RAM
    Core 2 Duo Processor
    Intel NICs

It is intended to serve three (3) lan segments that have a maximum 150 users per segment with actual users per segment over a five day period playing between 70 - 95 users.

    Can the Hardware take it?

  • Whats your WAN speed? The lan segments will take care of internal LAN routing and the Core 2 Duo should very easily be able to handle 100+ users. But all depends on how much WAN throughput you are looking to provide to the users. What about packages like Squid, Snort..etc?

    • WAN speeds are 2 ADSL Lines @ up to 11mbps
    • Planning to deploy squid, squidguard and captive portal.. .

  • You will do just fine.
