2.1-RC2 Live-CD ramdisk issue

  • I like to run pfSense from the LiveCD and having only the config.xml stored on a separate disk (da0s1).

Even If I configure 1gig of memory, and I try to install on the fly some packages like open-vm-tools
I ran out of ramdisk very quickly.

Is there a variable in some /etc/rc.xxxx files where I can define more memory to use?

    Thanks for any suggestion

    I am running:

  • Hi think I found the answer by myself

Can someone confirm that the variables are located in /etc/defaults/rc.conf and
are used in /etc/rc.d/{tmp,etcmfs,varmfs} called from /etc/rc.cdrom?

tmpmfs="AUTO" # Set to YES to always create an mfs /tmp, NO to never
tmpsize="20m" # Size of mfs /tmp if created
tmpmfs_flags="-S" # Extra mdmfs options for the mfs /tmp
varmfs="AUTO" # Set to YES to always create an mfs /var, NO to never
varsize="32m" # Size of mfs /var if created
varmfs_flags="-S" # Extra mount options for the mfs /var

Packages are not and can't be compatible with the LiveCD in a clean/integrated way. You'd be better off with a NanoBSD install with a small SSD/USB. There is little benefit to continued long-term use of the LiveCD these days, even if it is the Memstick version.
