Fibre Channel HBA advice
-
I managed to get a pair of "HP 397740-001 Emulex Lightpulse PCI-e 4Gb/s Fibre Channel HBA Dual Channel" cards from ebay for just under £10 (inc p&p).
I have no clue or experience with FC but its something I want to learn, just like I learnt to use switches/vlans/lacp and a bunch of other stuff through these forums!
The hardware I own that could be used in conjunction with these cards are:
2 x HP Proliant ML110-G6's
2 x HP Procurve 1800-24's
1 x HP MicroserverThe 2 ML110's both have intel quad 1Gb cards, these servers are running esxi 5
and the Microserver has a dual port intel 1Gb card, this runs freenas and is setup as an ISCSI target for my ML110's.
The Microserver is connected to one Procurve using LACP, the ML110 arent utilising LACP.Ok here is where my knowledge is lacking and seek some advice.
Can I use my new FC cards with the Procurve switches?
If not, I came across a post elsewhere that said a Brocade 200E FC switch can be picked up for next to nothing these days, would this be better?
Would it be advisable to get an additional FC card, so I can put one in each server?Any advice is greatly appreciated, I dont need step by step advice, just a point in the right direction and I usually work it out myself.
Thanks in advance :)
P.S I know my onboard sata controllers in my HP's will be the bottleneck in the network but I dont really care at this point.
