      Hi,

When trying to install freeradius2 it stops at

Beginning package installation for freeradius2 .
      Downloading package configuration file... done.
      Saving updated package information... done.
      Downloading freeradius2 and its dependencies...
      Checking for package installation...
       Downloading http://files.pfsense.org/packages/8/All/freeradius-2.2.0-i386.pbi ...  (extracting)

Found these errors in the system log:

Oct 10 14:32:07	php: rc.start_packages: PBI dir for freeradius-2.2.0-i386 was not found - cannot cleanup PBI files
      Oct 10 14:32:09	check_reload_status: Syncing firewall
Oct 10 14:32:10	php: rc.start_packages: PBI dir for freeradius-2.2.0-i386 was not found - cannot cleanup PBI files
Oct 10 14:32:22	php: rc.start_packages: Reinstalling package freeradius2 failed. Take appropriate measures!!!
Oct 10 14:32:24	php: rc.start_packages: Reinstalling package freeradius2 failed. Take appropriate measures!!!

Tried multiple times and tried restarting the firewall. If I open a new browser window I can see FreeRADIUS2 listed under installed packages but I can't find it under the services menu. I did have some radius software before upgrading to v2.1 but it seems to got uninstalled during the upgrade?

Any suggestions on what to do?

        Hi,

try DIAGNOSTICS –> BACKUP/RESTORE --> Clear Package Lock

And make sure that all freeradius dependent files in this folder are deleted:

        /usr/local/pkg/

Thanks for your reply. I can't find the "clear package lock" under backup/restore. I see a button that says "reinstall packages". When I try that one it stops at:

          Backing up libraries...
          Removing package...
          Starting package deletion for freeradius-2.2.0-i386...

When I look in the folder I see the following files after uninstalling freeradius:

            Hmm,

could be possible that this option isn't available on pfsense 2.1. I am still using 2.0.3. Perhaps it is somewhere else on the GUI - SYSTEM –> ADVANCED or somewhere else.

Can you install another package like cron successfully? If not check your pfsense DNS server.

Yep, I managed to install "file mananger" without any errors and installation was quick.

If I would do a factory default on the device using the GUI (diag -> Factory default), would that make it like a brand new installation or does it save any data from the current configuration?

are you running a full install of pfsense or du you use ebedded install or something like this?

As far as I know the installation only works without problems on a full install.
