There's a hundred versions, each with different memory specs from 512mb-4gb. I can give it any amount of ram I want, I have plenty, but I don't want to be wasteful. How much ram should I give it for heavy routing and traffic? I do about 15tb/mo in bandwidth for 6 servers including email and web server, a game server, ftp server. There's also 4 computers and 4 mobile devices.

These are images intended to be flashed to whatever flash you are using (probably most people are using CF cards in an ALIX).
The size in the name of the file does not refer to memory.
It refers to the size of the flash-medium.

If you are going to run it on a normal PC you should use the "normal" version
        Either pfSense-LiveCD-2.1-RELEASE-amd64.iso.gz or pfSense-LiveCD-2.1-RELEASE-i386.iso.gz

        Have you looked at http://pfsense.com/index.php@option=com_content&task=view&id=52&Itemid=49.html
For memory usage you can say in general you can say 1Kb per state.
So depending on how many states you expect you need to add more/less memory.

We do what we must, because we can.

I see, that that makes sense.

I thought they were designed based on the available memory. I'm not sure what states are though. I was going to give it 512mb starting and let it expand as it needed.
