Release a WAN DHCP lease?

In all the consumer routers I've seen, there is a way to release a WAN DHCP address so that the router can be replaced without cloning the MAC, as some ISPs associate the MAC to the IP address. From ssh, I tried bringing down the WAN interface with ifconfig and killing dhclient, but that did not help. What's the recommended way to achieve it as I did not see anything on the GUI (pfSense 2.1)?
