DNS Servers Blank - No DNS Forwarding
-
I just installed pfSense 2.1 on an ALIX board. Most everything is working correctly except DNS.
Right now, I've got the pfSense box behind my EdgeRouter so the WAN IP is 192.168.2.200 and the local IP subnet is set to 192.168.1.x. This will change when it goes into production however.
The problem is that, even though I setup two DNS servers under General Setup on the dashboard, DNS servers is blank. Also, no DNS servers are being set when a client get a DHCP hand out. If I manually set a DNS server, everything works fine.
Has anyone seen this before?

And what do you have set in your dhcp scope? Your clients are not going to get an dns from dhcp unless dhcp has one to hand out.
did you leave it blank under dns - notice the text under dhcp server.
NOTE: leave blank to use the system default DNS servers - this interface's IP if DNS forwarder is enabled, otherwise the servers configured on the General page.

The dhcp scope is set to 192.168.1.1-192.168.1.254 or the available ranges are 192.168.1.75-225. Under Services->DHCP Server I left the dns servers blank as I hoped it would use the system DNS servers.

Well if you left dns servers blank on the dhcp server section it should hand out what you have setup in general.. Where I could see a problem is if you have 127.0.0.1 in general as dns – this would not be good for clients to use ;)
Why not just put in what your want your dhcp clients to use in the dhcp server section.

I'll try that but I think I may have found another issue.
I tried to edit see what the resolv.conf file was set to in shell and the file itself is a symbolic link pointing no where. If I try to edit it or remove it to create a new one, it tells me it's a read only file system.
