      Hello all,  :)

I would like to install the freeradius2 package on my pfSense box, running on an ALIX 2D13 (nanobsd). Unfortunately, the installer keeps freezing at the following line:

Beginning package installation for freeradius2 .
      Downloading package configuration file... done.
      Saving updated package information... done.
      Downloading freeradius2 and its dependencies...
      Checking for package installation...
       Downloading http://files.pfsense.org/packages/8/All/freeradius-2.2.0-i386.pbi ...  (extracting)

      The System log only shows:

php: /pkg_mgr_install.php: Beginning package installation for freeradius2 .

The activity icon in my browser is still spinning for some time, and stops after some minutes.

After having a look at the menu bar, there is no sign of the package.

Interestingly, the package shows up under "Installed packages". When I try to reinstall the package itself or the GUI components, the latter show up in the web interface; this is the corresponding log:

      Removing freeradius2 components...
      Tabs items... done.
      Menu items... done.
      Services... done.
      Loading package instructions...
Include file freeradius.inc could not be found for inclusion.
      Deinstall commands...
Not executing custom deinstall hook because an include is missing.
      Removing package instructions...done.
      Auxiliary files... done.
      Package XML... done.
      Configuration... done.
Beginning package installation for freeradius2 .
      Downloading package configuration file... done.
      Saving updated package information... done.
      Downloading freeradius2 and its dependencies...
      Checking for package installation...
       Downloading http://files.pfsense.org/packages/8/All/freeradius-2.2.0-i386.pbi ...  (extracting)

Again, the installert stops at the same point as before.

However, I can access the settings and edit them now, but I am unable to start radiusd. pfSense says that it is being started, but the service icon remains red. I can also start radtest over SSH (which is not installed by default in a basic pfSense installation; timeouts when I try to test localhost), so apparently something has been extracted – but not everything?

Any clues on this? I've got about 1,5GB left on my CF card, so that should be no issue. What else could prevent the proper installation of the package?

Thank you all very much for your help, it's much appreciated  :)

      Regards,
      Alex

(just tried it again, and now even radtest won't work anymore...)

Are you sure it really freezes? Perhapa it just need some timw to extract, depending on the hardware.

You can try to uninstall freeradius and make sure all xml and inc fils in
        /usr/local/pkg
Were removed. Then perhaps doing a reboot could help or just a new try installing freeradius.

Further freeradius2 installs something in /var but this happens generally after the extracting part of the pbi.

Well, I waited for about an hour, I guess that should suffice in order to extract a 30 MB archive  ;)

I looked in /usr/local/pkg and /var, but could not find any xml/inc or anything else that could correspond to freeradius.

Tried a restart, installed again, deinstalled, installed, still the same.  :(

Is there maybe a manual way to install this package?

If it is 30MB then maybe it runs out of space in /var (a memory disk on nanoBSD). These days you can change the size of /var (and /tmp) from the GUI (with reboots…), so you could increase /var just for the install, then put it back after. Alix 256MB are reasonably short on memory, so leaving /var bigger than the default might mean you run out of memory for real processes.
