I have a Fabiatech FX5620.  It's running off a CF chip right now.  It's driving me nuts that I can do in-flight upgrades via the web portal.  I want to be able to mess around and run RC's, etc.  The 5620 has 2.5" IDE and can accept a hard drive.  I acquired an 8gig DOM that should work.  http://www.techpowerup.com/img/10-07-26/105c.jpg

So I purchased an IDE to USB converter and a IDE gender changer… no dice.  It doesn't recognize as a disk.  Not quite sure why.  So my next bet is to try a different style of a converter.  Does this look right?  http://www.amazon.com/Elecity-Serial-SATA-Horizontal-Adapter/dp/B003SLTGTE

I have a bunch of SATA PC's that I can use to do a full disk install...

      thx!

Why can't you update from the webgui when running from CF?

It's 512meg (the way I purchased it).  Space constraint.  So I either use this 8 gig DOM that I have for free or purchase a larger CF card and the adapter…

The FX5620 has a built in CF slot you don't need an adapter.
There are upgrade files for 512MB images, what version do you have running now?

It's running 2.1 w/ 84% usage.  Never gotten an upgrade to work.
