Started loosing internet within 10 minutes
-
Hi all
I have pfSense running for 3+ years. This past Sunday my internet stopped working. Unplugged modem it came back.
Again today same thing. Logged into pfSense tried to ping google from pfSense no response. Called Comcast they said signal is good and nothing wrong on their end. They can dispatch tech and if issue is one my end I will get charged.
I started to do some troubleshooting. It turns out within 10 minutes internet disappears. Hooked up modem directly to the computer and there was no issue at all for over half hour.
Installed new hard drive into pfSense and installed fresh copy with no changed settings at all. Again same issue.Hooked up my wireless router Asus N-16 running Tomato 1.28 by shibby and it works again now for more then 45 minutes.
Can someone suggest how to narrow it down what's causing this issue?
pfSense is running on dell dimension 2400 w/ 1GB RAM
TIA

Anything in the logs? Connection to the modem still show as UP?
Hardware failed? It's quite old.
Try running memtest86+ on it for a few cycles.
Try swapping the WAN and LAN NICs.Steve

Thank you for taking time to reply!
Currently pfSense box is disconnected and looking at log last time it just complained DyDNS could not connect. When I get back home I will post the logs.
Where is the best place to check if WAN is still UP?
I'm using separate Intel Pro/1000 MT Dual Port Server Adapter Gigabit NIC
I will try to find spare NICs and run it that way to isolate Intel NIC. -

I would look at ifconfig in the console if you can otherwise look in Status: Interfaces:
