      Hi!

I am running 2.1 amd64 pfsense on a Core i3 with 4GB RAM. But on the dashboard it's only showing 3251 MB. Does anyone know why pfsense doesn't recognise all 4GB?

      Regards

      Tommy

Could it be the amount of memory allocated to the graphics chip?

            32-bit or 64-bit install?

            I can break anything.

Check your bios for RAM reserved to graphics perhaps.

Ok so not a GUI translation problem then.
You have said you're running 64bit but this looks so much like a 32bit problem it's worth double checking.
Try this, I'm running 32bit here:

                  [2.1.1-PRERELEASE][root@pfsense.localdomain]/root(1): uname -a
                  FreeBSD pfsense.localdomain 8.3-RELEASE-p14 FreeBSD 8.3-RELEASE-p14 #0: Fri Feb 14 09:15:47 EST 2014     root@snapshots-8_3-i386.builders.pfsense.org:/usr/obj.pfSense/usr/pfSensesrc/src/sys/pfSense_wrap.8.i386  i386

Otherwise do you have most recent bios? Does it show all 4GB in the RAM count at POST?

I can't find what the default shared graphics RAM setting is for your board but it does say that it's up to 1696MB so you're you're probably loosing some there if you've not set it the lowest level,

                  Steve

                    [2.1-RELEASE][admin@pfsense.localdomain]/root(2): uname -a
                    FreeBSD pfsense.localdomain 8.3-RELEASE-p11 FreeBSD 8.3-RELEASE-p11 #0: Wed Sep 11 18:39:44 EDT 2013    root@snapshots-8_3-i386.builders.pfsense.org:/usr/obj.pfSense/usr/pfSensesrc/src/sys/pfSense_SMP.8  i386

Very strange…so this must mean that I've installed the 32 bit...how on earth did that happen??? I must have used the wrong disc...a little embarrassing to be honest  :-[

Well, problem solved! Thanks for your help  ;D

Yep that's the 32bit version. Easily done, I've piles of DVDRs here on my desk. Some of them are labelled….  ::)
