Cant use Lan DHCP and Assign as a Static
-
I am using a Lan address of 10.0.0.1/24 I wish to use a group exp .50-.200 as my DHCP pool.
The challenge is when I assign 10.0.0.10 or anything outside the pool, the device with the address does not work.
We are thinking that with the Users getting DHCP (pool) We would like to use the lower addresses to assign them to
stationary items such as a/p, etc.
What are we missing. I was thinking that we were using such in other versions of pfSense .. we are currently on 2.1
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

What you describe should be no problem, this is exactly what I and many people do, use the lower numbers for static devices and have a DHCP pool at the higher end of the subnet. The device that you set the static IP in will also need to have the gateway and DNS server set to the pfSense LAN IP address.
As long as you still have the default allow all on LAN rule there, it should go.
Tell us what rules are on LAN and exactly what "does not work". -
ID Proto Source Port Destination Port Gateway Queue Schedule Description
- * * LAN Address 4043
80
221 * * Anti-Lockout Rule
move edit
add
icon IPv4 ICMP * * * * * none ICMP PASS
edit
delete add
avanced icon IPv4 TCP/UDP LAN net * * * * none Default allow LAN to any rule
That hurts my brain. Sorry to say. Try taking a screenshot if you can. I use greenshot to do screen captures. Very useful.

Assigning static IP in pfsense you use the page on my screenshot found Services -> DHCP Server -> Static Mapping
If an IPv4 address is entered, the address must be outside of the pool.
If no IPv4 address is given, one will be dynamically allocated from the pool.Assigning static IP on the client you need to make sure you do it properly:
ipaddress subnet mask default gateway
Which way are you doing it?

I am most embarressed but I have not been able to work with greenshot successfully… I guess to big of hurry... will get it though..
the dhcp is set to start currently at .10 to go up to .200
I needed to get the equipment going. but I can do as instructed and will go back and verify... I am to be on location tomorrow thursday
and will be more able to work directly on it at that time.POPPY

I am re reading your input and it is thought provoking… Our past installs we did not setup a lan rule for the equip to be able to work outside of the dhcp pool.
It is kind of puzzling..
you feel we should write a rule for each a/p or appliance or misc equip that we have on the lan that we want outside of the DHCP pool??
is that correct.....

You don't need to do anything special for static IP outside DHCP range. You either configure the static IP on the computer or in pfsense. One or the other. No firewall rules

Thank You Sir !!! :-* :-*
