      Hello all,

I'm getting stuck on andinstall with a Dell Power 2950. It has a Perc 5/i controller with RAID 10,  16GB RAM.  I'm using the the 64 bit version if PFsense and have used the same CD successfully on 4 different servers now including an 1850,1950,R710 and HP Proliant 2600 series.

If I boot with the default, it hangs at :  device_attach: fdc0 attach returned 6

If I boot with ACP disabled, it goes further, but hangs at:  IPsec: Initialized Security Assocation Processing

I tried the same install with fresh FreeBSD 8.4 just for a sanity check and get the same results (as expected). We recently loaded Centos on there with no problem. I also ran Vyos from a CD so I know all the hardware is good.

I attached a screenshot of both failures.

      Any suggestions?

Does it have a DRAC card?  This guy has the same problem: https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=73944.0, but no feedback yet.

I've had a lot of issues with systems and IPMI cards with FreeBSD-based systems.  Good ones will only present the virtual media devices to the OS when mounted but I've run across a ton that still leave the virtual controllers floating around out there even if you've never used them.

          I can break anything.

No DRAC, no IPMI or anything else like that. We upgraded the firmware, same result. We also tried set hint.fdc.0.disabled="1"  from the boot prompt and it still would hang. I'm not sure what it's seeing as a floppy controller at this point.

Goto the BIOS and look for an option called "Redirection after boot" - try disabling this.

i know these are old but in case anyone is looking since there are a couple unanswered posts on these or similar dell models

i had to enable the serial port and specifically on WITHOUT CONSOLE REDIRECTION. with it disabled id get the same errors. i set it for console no redirect and installed fine.
