High ping times when uplink is saturated
-
Well, this is expected to an extent. However I pay for 50/10 from comcast along with voice service, if my uplink is >5m, it results in high ping times and sometimes I do not receive calls in time. Company policy is to answer the phone within 2 rings. and if my pings shoot up to 100ms+ on the data side, this means it is physically impossible for me to get to the phone in time and it re-routes the calls to another line. Is this normal for data services to effect my voice services, or should I call comcast out on this?

100ms seems a little excesive, especially since you're only using half your upstream bandwidth.
Most people who use VoIP use some sort of traffic shaping because latency is such a big issue.Steve

Yikes! :(
I'll leave it to others to comment on Comcast, I have no experience with them directly. It's significantly different to my home 40/2 connection here in the UK.Steve
