Rc.conf issue
-
Hi,
I am trying to make a bonded interface..
lagg0
however using the command line i can do this..
ifconfig lagg0 up laggproto failover laggport em0 10.0.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0
but if i try to look for /etc/rc.conf i don't find it?
i have gone through couple of posts in the forum and it seems the file is not there in pfsense T_T
so what alternative could i use to just get my bonded interfaces up and edit it with some peace of mind?
Thanks.
Also i am aware its possible to do bonding/wan aggregation with zeroshell but i am not trying to do that..

It's not there because pfSense is so much customized from the standard FreeBSD that it's not needed. If you have to use it, use /etc/rc.conf.local instead because /etc/rc.conf might get deleted on boot up if I remember correctly.

Thanks..
so i just create /etc/rc.conf.local
and add this right?
cloned_interfaces="lagg0" ifconfig_em0="up" ifconfig_em1="up" ifconfig_lagg0="laggproto lacp laggport em0 laggport em1 10.1.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.0"
and reboot the box?

That should work. However, doesn't PfSense already support creation of LAGG interfaces in the webgui? I don't have my test pfSense installation running at the moment but I do remember seeing option for that under the interfaces menu.

:o :o :o :o :o :o :o
;D ;D ;D ;D
It already does it seems. Hahaha.. I have been trying to re-invent the wheel it seems..
Most of the posts i read were about either multi-wan, fail-over, load-balance etc.. N the only question on the forum about WAN Aggregation.. someone asked the poor chap to use zeroshell lol -.- anyways gonna try this out. thanks

its bit difficult n annoying to do from the webui as.. pfsense starts after u define the wan and lan interfaces.. so once u define an interface you can't go in the LAGG tab and add the interfaces it seems (WAN em2 which is already added in interfaces tab) .. guess this is the reason why many haven't tried it?
as u can see i cannot remove the wan em4 interface? so how do i create a LAGG interface with em4 and em0 from webui? :|

Nothing to do with rc.conf gets touched, you can't manually configure lagg or anything else in rc.conf (with or without .local).
WAN can't be deleted. If you want to use its NIC for something else, assign WAN to a different NIC. Or make up a non-existent VLAN if you don't have a spare NIC.
