      Hello!

I am running pfsense-1.2-RC3 (Wed Jan  2 19:42:56 EST 2008) on ALIX.2 and I just discovered a bug (at least for me it looks like a bug). I did some testing with a Laptop connected directly top the LAN-interface and every the Laptop went to sleep the LAN-interface is going down. After waking up the Laptop I can not connect to the pfsense via web anymore, the Laptop gets no DHCP-lease and even ping tells me that the host is down.

Because I am also connected via serial console I looked into in the system.log and saw this:
      gateway:~#  tail -f /var/log/system.log
Jan 17 09:54:38 gateway kernel: vr0: link state changed to DOWN
Jan 17 10:06:22 gateway kernel: vr0: link state changed to UP
      Jan 17 10:06:24 gateway check_reload_status: rc.linkup starting
      Jan 17 10:06:26 gateway php: : Processing vr0 - start
Jan 17 10:06:26 gateway php: : Hotplug event detected for vr0 but ignoring since
interface is not set for DHCP
      Jan 17 10:06:26 gateway php: : Processing start -
      Jan 17 10:06:26 gateway php: : Not a valid interface action ""
      Jan 17 10:06:26 gateway php: : Processing  -
      ….

So this looks to me like a bug - I expect that the LAN-interface comes up and every service is reachable when I connect a hub/switch or computer to that port.

Maybe it is a bug with the ALIX-boards?

      Bye,
      eweri

P.S. tail -f does not work if you want to see changes in system.log you has to stop and start tail again

I doubt it's related to ALIX or the VR NICs.
Maybe chime in in this thread: http://forum.pfsense.org/index.php/topic,7369.msg42189.html#msg42189
