Today I performed an upgrade from a 1.2-BETA release (dated 5/04/2007) to 1.2-RC4. Upon initial reboot, I received the following errors:

<snip>sio0: configured irq 4 not in bitmap of probed irqs 0
sio0: port may not be enabled
      sio0 at port 0x3f8-0x3ff irq 4 flags 0x10 on isa0
sio0: type 8250 or not responding
<snip>At that last line, the system locked and became un-responsive. If I rebooted into "FreeBSD Safe Mode", it booted fine.

My solution was to go into the BIOS and enable the serial port.

So I consider this an acceptable resolution for this particular system, however, I wanted to pass this along as all previous updates to this particular server have gone through without anything like this.

The motherboard in question is: "MSI K8N Neo4-F NF4 939"

      I hope this helps others.

      Regards,

      Nate D.</snip></snip>

Thanks for posting that info. This is caused by a FreeBSD change, which we don't control. It's good to have the solution here available for others who find this in the future via searching (for FreeBSD or pfSense issues).

I am using a Dell Dimension 2300 (pfSense 1.2 RC4 clean install), I had my serial ports disabled and was getting the same problem as you, system locks at line: sio0: configured irq 4
Enabled Serial Port in BIOS, works fine now.  Thanks for the post!
