Because of a problem I had earlier,I checked the firmware update settings on my VM before attempting an update to 2.1.4.

In the first screen shot there is no current architecture shown.

Second screen shot shows the result of selecting amd64.
Note that Use an unofficial server for firmware upgrades is checked
and the location shows as http://updates.pfsense.org/_updaters/amd64.

Third shot shows the result of clicking Save.

      Is this the expected behavior?

The drop-down is only a manifest list, it doesn't persist as a setting.

If nothing is listed at all, it uses the default, which is to use the URL for your current architecture.

The observed behavior is expected, placing a value into the update URL box (any value, even if it matches the default) would show up that way.

          jimp,

Thanks for the explanation.  It just seemed a bit strange, in terms of the "normal" GUI style.
