Dell PowerEdge R320 1 U Rack Mount
-
Hi,
I'm currently looking at a Dell PowerEdge R320 1 U Rack Mount server for installing pfsense 2.1.4. I have a check on the hardware compatibility list (http://www.freebsd.org/releases/8.3R/hardware.html#ETHERNET) and freeBSD release notes http://www.freebsd.org/releases/8.3R/relnotes-detailed.html, and I have the following spec out for the Dell R320:
Processor : Intel Xeon Processor E5-2407 v2 (2.40GHz)
Optical Drive : 8x SATA DVD + /-RW Drive
Hard disk : 1 X 500GB 7.2K RPM SATA 3.5 "
Memory : 1 x 8GB RDIMM 1600 MHz
NIC: Intel I350 2x1Gb Base-TI am trying as much as possible to find the right hardware. Appreciate if anyone who has similar experience with running pfSense on Dell R320 or Dell PowerEdge can help advise if the above hardware specs will work on pfsense 2.1.4.
Much Thanks!

I ran it on a dell poweredge 2650. dual processor 2.2ghz 2gb ram. I dont think you should have any issue with your setup

Thanks cooperose. May I know if you are using the on-board NIC? Or what is the make/model of the NIC you are using?
Thanks.

The on-board NIC for R320 is a Broadcom 5720 Gigabit NIC, this is not on the compatibility list, so I'm not sure if it'll works.

I used the onboard nics. They dont work very well. I decided to go to my local thrift store and buy an old machine I now use that cause its a lot cheaper to run.

The Broadcom BCM5720 NICs should be supported by the bge(4) driver.
