Widentd - how is it supposed to work?

Hello everyone, i am required to use a specific ident in order to log into several ftp server i access regularly. As of now i run the ident server locally in windows, but i would like to move it over to pfsense. I installed the widentd package, told it to listen to the opt1 inerface that i use to connect to the ftp with, input my ident user and unforwarded my old ident information in the rules section. It doesnt work. I'm sure i'm missing something obvious but would someone mine explaining what that is? Thanks!
