I have dsl connection and a wifi fail over to somewhere else, .. wifi uses vlan, so the routers interface has 172.16.2.2 and the wifi has 172.16.2.1 and added that as default gateway, .. for the interface that is.

Now when I try to connect from 172.16.2.0/24 to the internet from any computer in the network, it works fine. However when I set to use 172.16.2.2 when wan is down it doesn't work, even when i add openvpn client to use that interface it doesn't connect however when i set the openvpn server ip as monitor ip for that gateway it can connect why is this.

For some reason there's an routing issue and no it's not a firewall thing I've disabled the firwall even added allow all but it doesn't change anything.

Why can the openvpn or any other connection only work when it's added as monitor IP

           route to: google-public-dns-a.google.com
        destination: default
               mask: default
            gateway: 172.16.2.1
          interface: vr2_vlan20

        # route get 8.8.8.8</up,gateway,done,static>

redit the configuration now when the link is down it is able to get on the internet from the router only, .. could this be because i use wan ip's on my lan.
