I'm looking for an Expert in Pfsense and Squid3 to help me set them up. Will use Skype and sharescreen to get the job done.
      Thank you

What are you trying to accomplish with Squid?

I am trying to setup Squid3 on a Pfsense router and I'm having trouble caching downloads and windows updates.

Sorry, I haven't spent any time playing with WU caching.  What problem are you having with caching downloads?  Or is it specifically WU dowloads you're trying to deal with?

i just had the same problem. not sure what happened but check the services and see if its stopped. if you attempt to restart and it fails try reinstalling the package. thats what worked for me.

First off, what do you have for your cache size and Maximum object size?  I just a quick test using some data files at broadband.com.  After setting my cache to 100MB and Max to 80000KB, I ran wget on a 50MB file which came down in about 45 seconds to complete.  Then on another system on my test LAN, I ran wget for the same file and it came down in 5 seconds, so it seems to be working for me.

Here are the test files I use:

In my test lab, I hacked up a quickie config of one pfSense router and two Windows clients.  I set my Squid Hard disk cache size to 10 GB (10,000 MB) and a Max object size of 500 MB (500,000 KB).  I then ran Windows Update on client1 and sucked down 130 MB of data in 1:18.  I then ran Windows Update on client2 and it pulled down the same fileset in 13 seconds. It seems to be working just fine.

ya mine works exactly like that.  I download the 512mb file from one computer, it took 10 minutes or so, then i grab the same file from another computer and it was less than a minute (same file from same website)..  http://www.thinkbroadband.com/download.html
