I setup a simple traffic shaping scheme using the wizard (pfSense ver 2.1.4). Data appears to be populating every queue other than any of the qAck queues. Is this normal or is something messed up?

Under Firewall - Rules - Floating Rules, do you have your TCP-related rules set to direct ACK into qACK?  Post a screen of your floating rules.

Thanks for your reply! No I do not appear to have any such floating rules, the only rules here were created by the wizard. Looks like just VoIP stuff.

May I ask how I can manually create such a rule?

Not sure if it makes a difference but everything is setup with PRIQ schedulers within the wizard.

VoIP uses UDP, not TCP, which means there are no ACK packets to deal with.  Floating rules direct your traffic into queues based on criteria.  Since you don't have any rules that deal with TCP, you won't ever see any action in qACK.

To add a new rule, click the small grey + button at the top/bottom right-hand side of the frame.  I would highly recommend that you do some reading before you just jump into creating rules.

Yes, VoIP is UDP… I should have known this. That makes complete sense to me now. All that I am shaping is VoIP traffic so I guess I am all set. :)
I am quite experienced in setting up typical FW rules, unfortunately traffic shaping is something I have never touched before in my 15 or so years as an admin (sad but true).

Huge thanks for your clarification here.

Yes, if VoIP is all you care about at the moment then you are done.  Your PRIQ shaper will always give priority to qVoIP.  I've also been in the game for a long time and didn't have to worry about traffic shaping until recently.  The emergence of time-critical network VoIP traffic combined with client bandwidth hogs means you're going to have to at least get your feet wet.
