How to install Dashboard for 1.2RC4 embedded?
-
…packages are not supported… on embedded installs.
For the rest please search the forum.
This has been discussed at length. -
Or you can wait until 1.3 comes out (don't ask when, it'll be awhile) and the dashboard system will be part of the base system.
-
Yeah, i've used an earlier version of 1.3 that didn't have all the recent major changes but i had a nagging bug so I updated to a more stable 1.2RC4. I really miss the dashboard. I know i can hack the package to just install can't I?
-
Which is the word in "search the forum" that you don't get?
-
Hey, I've searched in the forums and i've found the ./rc.config_mount_rw command, pkg_add command to add freebsd packages. I know it's all unsupported but i've successfully installed many packages and got them to work. I don't need someone to say search the fourms, search the forums, search the forums. If you are unwilling to support me on installing the the dashboard package, you don't have to reply. I've searched already and I know the basis.
-
Where's your problem if you already installed many packages on an embedded system successfully?
The easiest way might be to install a full version, add the dashboard, edit the specific file I don't remember off memory to make it an embedded install and either enjoy or put the disc in the embedded device then.
-
The problem is that 1, I don't know where to find the dashboard package and two, there are xml config files associated with it and I don't know where they should go on the system.
I didn't do a full install because I only have a 256MB Flash card and don't have a CDROM on this mini-itx. Not too easy for me to get an ide cdrom and i'm guessing usb-cdrom won't work for installing the full version?
-
…put the (flash) disc in the embedded device afterwards.
Noone said you have to install within that mini-itx.
-
Ahah..but not everyone has servers and work computers to use. I've just got two laptops at home and i'm using pfsense as my home router/load balancer/AP.

You could get creative and use a USB to flash adapter and VMware. Setup the guest with hard drive set to use a physical drive.
Or you look at the package xml files and inside you would see it tell you exactly where the files go.

You are correct, you can't install pfSense from a USB-CDROM.
-
I would have to disagree with myself. Successful install from a usb-cdom. Cheers!

Which model usb-cdrom drive?

I used a Teac CD-210PU (5 years old) to install one of the very early 1.2 snapshots onto my FX5620. I don't know whether my success is related to the Teac drive, the box or a combination.
