How could I measure throughput/bandwidth between my smartphone and my pfSense router via the wireless network. Or from any computer to the router?
Is there a daemon already running in pfSense for that sort of thing, or a package?

You can use the iperf package on the pfSense box. It's not the best test but it's easy to run. I imagine there is an iperf app available for your phone but uf not then any laptop would be capable.

That looks like it might be perfect.

However, that package is for platform 1.2.1 and it's beta.

Would it be safe to install on 2.1.5 ?

That's the minimum version requirement. Whilst I haven't actually tried it yet in 2.1.5 I would expect it to install and run without issue.

Edit: works fine with Android iperf client.
