I changed from 128meg RAM to 1gig RAM. When booting system appears to bot normally almost to completion. Display scrolls a bunch of text and system reboots, this repeats over and over. Replaced the 128meg stick of RAM and it boots normally.

Is there a configuration change I need to make?

You should try testing the ram with memtest+ and verifying the ram is on your mobo's QVL list.

Failing that manually adjusting the timings to be less aggressive and/or kicking the memory voltage up a bit may increase stability.

You're probably looking at either bad ram or a compatibility issue.
